The Backcountry Explorer

This group gear list is ideal for a small group of 2-4 people.  If you are going to have more than 6 people I would suggest duplicating this list, so that each patrol (to borrow a Boy Scout term) has a duplicate set of gear.  The first item that you will need to think about is the number of tents. Some people prefer to have multiple tents, while others want 1 large tent with room for everyone.  Personally, I like multiple tents but that is just my personal choice. The benefit for having multiple tents is you have a backup if one fails.  This actually happened to me on a trip when a wind storm destroyed one of the tents.  We had enough space in the other to accommodate.  If we only had 1 tent for everyone, it would have been a very different outcome.
