First Aid Kit

A First Aid Kit is an essential piece of equipment for any trip.  One tip we've learned over the years is a good bag is essential to keeping everything organized and a dry bag is also essential.  Joe has had to spend many afternoons drying out they first aid kit after getting wet paddling in the Quetico.  We are currently on the hunt for a good sized dry bag came in red, so it can be easily identified as a First Aid Kit.  Here are the contents we carry in our general first aid kit:


  • Sea to Summit 8 Liter Dry Bag
  • Sam Splint, 36 inch
  • Medications
    • Aspirin 325 mg
    • Antihistamine (diphenhydramine/Benadryl) 25mg
    • Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 500 mg
    • Ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil) 200mg
  • Ace Bandage
  • Medical Tape
  • Moleskin
  • Emergency Blanket
  • Assorted Band-Aids
  • Neosporin
  • Chapstick
  • Eye Drops/eye Wash
  • CPR Mask
  • Bandages/Dressings
    • 2x3 in Gauze Pads
    • 2x2 in Gauze Pads
    • 2in Gauze Rolls
    • Triangular Bandage
    • 4x4 in Gauze Pads
    • Advanced Clotting Gauze (Surgicell, Quick-clot, etc)
  • Burn gel
  • Instruments
    • Tweezers
    • Scissors
    • Nail clippers
    • Thermometer and covers
    • Irrigation Syringe
  • Alcohol Swabs/Pads
  • Gloves
  • Steri-Strips
  • Dermabond

This is just a basic kit that works for a 2-4 people for up to a one week adventure.  We will add additional items to this kit if the group size increase or if the group members have specific medical needs or if the adventure requires modifications (i.e. longer trip).  When building your first aid kit use your best judgement and only pack things that you have the training or ability to use.
